Artists around the world are invited to submit applications for the seventh edition of the Tumaini Festival at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi from 4 to 7 November.

Tumaini Festival was founded in 2014 and seeks to transform Dzaleka Refugee Camp into a tourist destination. The event is free of entry for all performances.

Artists from the following art disciplines are invited to submit applications here before 31 July:
  1. Music
  2. Dance
  3. Poetry
  4. Theatre

Applicants should submit valid links to their work or performances from any of the following platforms: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and SoundCloud.

The organizers will not fund transport costs or performance fees for artists traveling from outside Malawi. The festival will also not pay professional fees to local artists but will cover transport to and from Dzaleka Refugee Camp. Meals, refreshments, and accommodation will be provided to artists coming from faraway places.

“Tumaini Festival is all about promoting peaceful coexistence between refugees and the host community, promoting mutual understanding and intercultural harmony,” the festival organizers said. “We encourage artists to come with ideas for collaboration and sharing knowledge. If you want to engage through a workshop or an exchange session, please send us your idea.”
