WFP, with donor support, has increased cash transfers to Dzaleka Camp refugees by 25%. Starting this month, over 54,000 refugees will receive 75% of their daily food needs, addressing the rising food insecurity due to the El Niño drought. This adjustment follows a previous 50% reduction in July 2023 caused by funding shortages, which worsened conditions in the camp.
Simon Denhere, WFP Deputy Director in Malawi, said, "Our primary goal is to ensure that all refugees in the camp have access to sufficient food to thrive."
The monthly amount per person will rise from K8,900 to K13,600.
