Refugees at Dzaleka Camp have requested industrial spaces and training in proper farming practices to establish sustainable and reliable economic livelihoods.
The appeal comes as the World Food Programme considers a complete cut-off of cash disbursements due to economic challenges.

Joyce Wamuyu, a leader from Rwanda, highlighted that most of the camp’s growing population relies solely on cash handouts, with few income-generating opportunities, making it difficult to sustain their livelihoods.
Dzaleka Refugee Camp Manager, Elton Phulusa, stated that plans are in place to engage partners in supporting refugees to utilise existing irrigation schemes for food production.
Dzaleka Refugee Camp currently hosts around 57,000 asylum seekers, primarily from the Democratic Republic of Congo, followed by Burundi and Rwanda.
