In a bid to alleviate some financial constraints that Umodzi Katudza Primary School girls face during their menstruation period, the Women Palm Tree organization has donated five sewing machines worth over 2 million kwacha to the school to facilitate the production of sanitary pads.
Dzaleka Camp Manager, Elthon Phulusa, hailed the donation, describing it as a complementary effort to the work being done by the government and other implementing partners. He urged the organization to extend this initiative to other primary schools to reach more girls in need.
Speaking to Yetu FM, Women Palm Tree Executive Director, Kahozi wa Kahozi Serge, highlighted that many young girls in Dzaleka miss school during their menstruation period due to a lack of resources to purchase sanitary pads. The donated sewing machines, he explained, will equip learners with skills to make reusable sanitary pads.
Serge expressed gratitude to well-wishers and women engaged in agricultural activities who contribute to sustaining such initiatives.
Umodzi Primary School’s Head Teacher, Blackie Khonje, commended the Women Palm Tree Organization for the timely donation and assured the proper use of the sewing machines.
