There is Hope Executive Director, Catherine Ndege Chirwa, has emphasised the transformative power of vocational training in empowering residents of Dowa, including those from Dzaleka Refugee Camp. She made these remarks on Tuesday during a visit by representatives from their key donor, Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH).
The visiting delegation included WHH's Chief Finance Officer Christian Monning and WHH Malawi Country Representative Susan Bipa. The purpose of the visit was to assess the impact of WHH’s funding on There is Hope’s vocational training programmes.
Speaking to Yetu FM, Chirwa stated that the training equips participants with practical skills that foster self-reliance and enable them to contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s development.
There is Hope currently offers a range of vocational training courses including bricklaying, fabrication and welding, solar photovoltaic installation, carpentry and joinery, plumbing, and tailoring and fashion design. These programmes serve both the refugee population and host communities.
