New Livelihood Project to Boost Food Security and Resilience in Dzaleka

Good Neighbors International Malawi has announced the launch of a new initiative focused on strengthening food security and building resilience among refugees and host community members in Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

The project was introduced during the Dowa District Council Executive Committee meeting last Thursday. Speaking to Yetu Radio, Project Coordinator Aubrey Gunda shared that the initiative will support both rain-fed and dry-season farming by providing agricultural inputs to participants.

“Our goal is to tackle food insecurity while promoting self-reliance among refugees through sustainable farming practices,” Gunda said.

A key feature of the project is market access—refugees will be supported in finding buyers for their produce, though they retain the freedom to sell their crops wherever they prefer.

The $500 USD project will directly benefit 210 refugee households and 60 families from the surrounding host community, focusing on enhancing economic resilience and long-term stability.
