Asifwe Alfred, his wife Yvonne, and their son Praise recently arrived in Canada from Dzaleka, in southern Africa. John Arendt/Summerland Review |
After a lifetime in Dzaleka, Asifwe Alfred, his wife Yvonne, and their son Praise have begun a new life in Summerland, Canada. Their journey, made possible by the One Person Project, marks a powerful story of hope, community, and new beginnings.
Asifwe, known for coaching young athletes in Dzaleka, became a pillar in the camp. With the help of project leader Brenda Lowe, the family’s wedding was funded to include Yvonne and Praise in the resettlement process. After over three years of advocacy and paperwork, the family arrived in July.
They join a growing number of Dzaleka families finding opportunity abroad. Their story reminds us that with the right support, even life in a refugee camp can lead to something extraordinary.
One family's new beginning is a win for all of us.
