Dzaleka today hosted Ms. Samantha DiFillipo, Desk Officer from the United States State Department, marking the first visit of its kind to the camp.
During the visit, the US delegation met with representatives from the Government of Malawi, UNHCR, the World Food Programme (WFP), and refugee community leaders. Discussions focused on the realities facing the camp’s residents, including the impact of recent funding cuts, reductions in food assistance, limited livelihood opportunities, and growing security concerns.
Stakeholders stressed the urgent need for sustained donor support to ensure access to food, health care, education, and security. Ms. DiFillipo’s visit reinforced the shared hope that through stronger partnerships, both refugees and host communities can work toward a more resilient future.
