Good Neighbors Malawi has unveiled the Food Response and Community Strengthening Project through Livelihood Support, aimed at fostering long-term self-reliance for both refugees and host communities in Dzaleka.
Speaking during the official opening of a newly constructed Communal Grain Storage warehouse at the Katatolonga irrigation scheme, Country Director Daeseon Ko highlighted the project’s focus on agricultural capacity building. He emphasized that the warehouse will enable farmers to safely store their produce and protect it from damage.
Dowa District Director of Agriculture, Chikumbutso Liwonde, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that it will enhance food security and create financial opportunities in the area. “Let me urge you all, the refugees and the host community, to join hands to achieve the common goal,” Liwonde said.
Representing the refugee community, Joseph Tiago applauded the project, stressing its importance in addressing ongoing food security challenges. “As a community we are grateful for Good Neighbors Malawi and the host community for recognizing and accommodating us. We promise to work together with the host community and utilize the resources effectively,” Tiago stated.
The Dzaleka HDP-N project seeks to empower both refugees and host communities to build sustainable livelihoods while strengthening social cohesion.
