Karonga Residents Appeal for Swift Action on Water Scarcity

Residents of Karonga in Dzaleka have appealed to authorities to urgently address water shortages that have disrupted daily life and worsened sanitation concerns.

The challenge follows the removal of a borehole handle by Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), a move linked to the construction of houses around the borehole. With limited access, households have been forced to rely on a nearby area’s borehole, straining resources and raising hygiene risks.

Speaking to Yetu FM, community member Kiyambi Jonathan described the situation as dire, noting that families are struggling to maintain proper sanitation.

Responding to the matter, Camp Manager Amos Mkandawire confirmed his office is aware of the issue and is working tirelessly to resolve it. He urged community leaders to act responsibly when construction projects threaten shared resources.

WHH Wash Officer Left Kanyika assured residents that the water scarcity in Karonga will soon be addressed, signaling ongoing efforts to restore access.

For Karonga residents, the appeal underscores the importance of safeguarding vital infrastructure and ensuring that development projects do not compromise essential services.
