MACODA Urges Government to Implement New Disability Act at Dzaleka

Chimwemwe Baluwa, an official working on disability services at the Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACODA), has asked the government and relevant stakeholders to follow the laws regarding people with disabilities, specifically the Malawi Disability Act of 2024.

Mr. Baluwa said this on Tuesday during an event commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which was organized by the Umoja Community-Based Organization (CBO) at Dzaleka.

He stated that the law was established to protect the rights and improve the lives of people with disabilities across the country.

Speaking to Yetu Radio, Daniel Esengana, the Secretary-General of Umoja CBO, said that the lack of adequate opportunities in education, employment, and assistive devices for people with disabilities are among the challenges these individuals face.

This year, the day was commemorated under the theme: "Promoting the participation of people with disabilities in development."
