A new arts initiative has been launched in Dzaleka to strengthen creative skills and expand opportunities for local artists. The program is led by HOME Storytellers with support from The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), and implemented in partnership with Artolution, Salama Africa Organization, and Tumaini Letu.

The initiative is built on the belief that creativity can offer a pathway to dignity and economic independence. Over several years, the program will provide tools, training, and mentorship to help artists develop sustainable careers in the creative sector.

The first phase begins with a two‑week capacity‑building workshop led by Artolution. The training focuses on developing a cohort of local creative professionals through practical instruction and collaborative learning.

After the workshop, partners will open a fully equipped Digital Content Creation Lab in the camp. The new space will offer young artists access to technology and production resources to create, refine, and share their work both locally and internationally.

Organizers say the initiative aims to expand income opportunities, increase visibility for Dzaleka’s artists, and encourage cultural exchange. By investing in local talent, the program highlights the role of art as a source of empowerment and community leadership.

The Artistic Livelihoods initiative marks a significant step in supporting Dzaleka’s growing creative community and ensuring that the voices of its artists are recognized and valued.
