There is big news for the Dzaleka diaspora community this week as professional forward Mayele Malango has officially transferred to Sacramento Republic FC for the 2026 season.
Malango, who spent ten years growing up in Dzaleka before resettling in the United States in 2015, joins the club after a strong season with Monterey Bay FC. During his 2025 campaign, he scored five goals and provided two assists in 29 appearances.
This move marks another step up for the 28-year-old, who has steadily climbed the ranks of American soccer. Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach Neill Collins praised Malango’s experience across multiple levels of the U.S. game, noting that the club is eager to bring his attacking style into their squad.
Malango will wear the No. 7 jersey for his new team.
"I would like to thank God for this opportunity," Malango said in a statement released by the club. "I’m super excited to join the team and can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success on and off the field."
The transfer follows a historic year for Malango. In late 2025, he achieved a major personal milestone by earning his first call-up to the Malawi National Team ("The Flames"), where he scored his first international goal against Lesotho in November. He has frequently spoken about his gratitude to Malawi for hosting his family during his childhood.
Sacramento Republic FC will kick off their season on March 7 against Orange County SC.
