Fraternity Without Borders to Support Community Policing Efforts in Dzaleka

Fraternity Without Borders, through its Ubuntu project, has pledged to support the Dzaleka community policing forum, commonly known as sungusungu, in an effort to strengthen security within the camp.

The commitment was announced on Monday during a meeting held at Ubuntu Hall. Ubuntu Country Director Clarissa Paz said the organisation will provide monthly allowances to sungusungu members from April to December 2026, with the possibility of extending the support.

Paz commended the Malawi Police Service for its ongoing collaboration and training, noting that effective community policing relies heavily on strong police leadership and consistent engagement.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Central East Region, Gladson Chipumphula, welcomed the initiative and encouraged sungusungu members to carry out their duties with diligence and professionalism to build confidence among partners. He said his office will closely monitor the programme to ensure transparency and accountability, warning against any misconduct during its implementation.

One sungusungu member, Simbokoka Heremimana, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the stipend will help sustain their families and reinforce integrity in their work.

Yetu FM has established that approximately 100 community policing members operate across 10 zones in Dzaleka.
