Dzaleka Motorcycle Community Elects New Leadership

The Dzaleka Motorcycle Community (DMC) on Friday elected Mafikiri Mutula Edson as its new president, with Bibaho Kiza Joseph chosen as vice president for a one‑year term.

The elections drew participation from motorcycle operators across the community and were described as peaceful, reflecting members’ commitment to democratic leadership.

Former DMC vice president Romain Bijangala praised the conduct of the polls, saying the outcome showed unity and maturity among operators.

“I would like to thank all motorcycle operators for making a positive and free choice in electing their leaders. This shows that our community believes in democracy and is ready to move forward under new leadership,” he said.

Bijangala expressed confidence in the newly elected committee, noting that it now carries the responsibility of coordinating the community and advancing its vision over the next 12 months.

However, he raised concern over the high cost of obtaining a driving licence, calling it a major challenge for many operators.

“The cost of a driving licence is too high for most of our members, and this is preventing them from becoming fully compliant. We expect the new leadership to engage road authorities and find a lasting solution,” he said.

Meanwhile, voter Niyonzima Martin, a Burundian national, called for inclusive leadership.

“We want leaders who will promote unity and work for everyone without discrimination,” he said.
