Stakeholders Urged to Strengthen Community Awareness on Human Trafficking

The Executive Director for Partners in Child, Youth and Women Development Organization, Phelire Malongo, has called on stakeholders to work together in spreading messages that help community members understand how to respond to human trafficking.

Malongo made the appeal during a Human Trafficking and Healing dialogue session held today at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa District. The session brought together community leaders and representatives from various groups to discuss challenges and prevention efforts.

Speaking during the event, Loret Mougani, Programme Coordinator for the South Africa–based Institute for Healing of Memories, said human trafficking remains a concern across the African continent. She noted that poverty and perceptions of better opportunities abroad — often amplified by social media — continue to drive vulnerability.

Reverend Abel Kachaje of Chanda CCAP Church described the dialogue as informative, saying the discussions will help strengthen efforts to address human trafficking at Dzaleka by equipping community members with relevant information.
