Dzaleka Arts Lab has been featured in a Refugee Week article highlighting a collaboration between refugee makers in Malawi and students from London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.
The article, Meeting Tomorrow: Extreme Collaboration Between Refugees and Students Courageously Co-imagining a Better Future, explores projects that brought together students and refugee communities in the United Kingdom and Malawi.
Dzaleka Arts Lab, a group of 37 makers based in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, worked with postgraduate students as part of a series of projects focused on design, creativity, and social change. Students also collaborated with organisations including MADE51, Kibebe, Citizens UK, and artist Laura Nyahuye.
According to the article, the partnerships helped students gain a better understanding of the experiences, skills, and talents found within refugee communities while working on practical creative projects.
The collaboration produced a range of outcomes, including workshops, films, exhibitions, communication campaigns, fashion and textile pieces, and policy recommendations.
Images published with the article include work developed through the partnership and a photograph taken in Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
The feature forms part of Refugee Week 2026 and recognises the role of collaboration between refugee communities, universities, and creative organisations.
