Parliamentary Committee Commits to Address Challenges at Dzaleka Refugee Camp


The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Security has expressed commitment to work with relevant stakeholders to address congestion, security and humanitarian challenges at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

Chairperson of the committee, Monica Chang’anamuno, made the remarks on Wednesday during the committee’s visit to the camp.

The visit was aimed at appreciating the situation on the ground following reports of reduced support from development partners.

Chang’anamuno said congestion at the camp has raised concerns over public health and security.

Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Refugees, Ivy Mpina Chihana, said the visit had provided an opportunity for lawmakers to appreciate the challenges facing the camp.

She expressed hope that the visit would help address some of the issues affecting Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
