A total of 150 young people from Dzaleka Refugee Camp have taken part in a Leadership for Life training programme aimed at strengthening leadership skills, resilience and economic participation among youth.
The training, held at Dzaleka Refugee Camp Community Hall, was organised by Emerging Leaders as part of its Malawi Youth Initiative.
Speaking during the programme, Emerging Leaders Operations Director Perry Kiruki encouraged young people to take greater responsibility for their lives and become active contributors to positive change in their communities.
Kiruki said young people have an important role to play in Malawi’s development and should be given access to the knowledge, information and opportunities they need to realise their potential.
The Leadership for Life programme covers areas including mindset development, leadership, financial literacy, livelihoods, mental health and resilience.
Daniel Safari Assa, one of the participants, said the training had helped him better understand what it means to become an active leader within his community.
Assa said he had also learnt the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and encouraging other community members to become more active and make positive choices in their lives.
Emerging Leaders plans to reach 10,000 young people across Malawi by the end of 2027 through its Malawi Youth Initiative.
The participation of 150 young people from Dzaleka forms part of that wider effort to equip young people with practical leadership and personal development skills.
