Prince Waleke, a young man who grew up in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, has been selected for a six-week training programme organised by CorpsAfrica.
Prince arrived in Malawi from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002 with his parents, who had fled conflict in search of safety.
He grew up in Dzaleka and later lost both parents. Despite the difficulties he faced, he continued working towards his goals.
Prince is among 98 young people selected to take part in the CorpsAfrica training programme.
After completing the training, the participants will be deployed to eight districts across Malawi, where they will work with communities on sustainable development initiatives and locally led solutions.
CorpsAfrica Country Manager Wongani Mugaba said Prince’s experience reflects the organisation’s work of preparing young people to serve communities and take on leadership responsibilities.
The programme gives Prince an opportunity to work with communities outside Dzaleka while gaining experience in community development and public service.
