Dowa Police have launched an investigation into the death of 31-year-old Tathokoza Salimu, an FDH Bank employee who worked at the bank’s branch at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

Salimu was found dead inside a vehicle on September 21 at Chinkhota Village near Tatolonga Bridge along the Dzaleka–Dowa Boma Road.

Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Sub-Inspector Alice Sitima said road users alerted police after noticing a vehicle parked along the road with its engine still running.

Police officers who responded to the scene found Salimu inside a black Subaru Impreza. Police said she had sustained a wound to her neck.

Officers recovered several items from the vehicle, including a driver’s licence, smartphone, FDH Bank teller identification card and other documents bearing Salimu’s name.

Police investigations established that Salimu worked for FDH Bank at Dzaleka Refugee Camp and was on holiday at the time of her death.

Her body was taken to Dowa District Hospital Mortuary for formal identification by relatives and a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are continuing and a manhunt is underway for those suspected to be responsible.

Salimu came from Muliya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkanda in Mulanje District.
